Example Everbearing Varieties 🍓:
- Selva
- Ostara
- San Andreas
This is a group of varieties that, unlike traditional varieties, bloom and bear fruit from late spring to late autumn, in practice – until the first frost. This is because these varieties are insensitive to day length. In recent years, their popularity has grown significantly, and it is not surprising. Who among us would not like to “shine” with beautiful and sweet strawberries in late autumn? 😃 They can be grown both in the garden in the open air and under covers. Their cultivation allows you to easily extend the strawberry harvest period by several months.
The cultivation of everbearing strawberries, due to a completely different growth and fruiting cycle, differs significantly from the cultivation of traditional strawberries, which does not mean that it is more difficult. It’s just different.😊
Everbearing strawberries are often mistakenly referred to as “climbing”. This is an obvious misunderstanding, because strawberries are not peas and will not climb by themselves. But if you help them and tie the growing stolons to trellises or other supports, you can indeed achieve such an effect, i.e. the effect of a climbing strawberry. Then, on the “climbing” stolons, seedlings appear, which, like the mother plant, will also bloom and bear fruit. Everbearing strawberries, thanks to their long fruiting period, are increasingly used for decorative purposes, planting them in various types of containers (pots, boxes). Then they delight our eyes 😋 (and taste buds, of course) on balconies and terraces. Their cultivation is not difficult, but it is worth remembering to feed them regularly and water them frequently, especially on hot days.
