The Perils of Overcrowding Strawberry Plants?

Planting plants🌱 too densely is a common mistake among beginner gardeners. This is especially true for strawberries, which react very negatively to excessive crowding.

Too many plants cause them to compete with each other for light, water, and nutrients, which consequently leads to a reduction in strawberry yields. But it’s not just about the quantity of the yield. Its quality also decreases, as the overcrowded plant stand hinders air circulation, thereby increasing humidity, which leads to increased fungal infections, especially mold.🙂

Moreover, ripening fruits, due to less exposure to the sun, are not as tasty (i.e., sweet) as those that are not lacking in sunlight. Additionally, too many plants make it difficult to care for them, such as weeding and protective treatments, as well as harvesting the fruits themselves.

From my experience, it is better to plant strawberries too sparsely than too densely. In my opinion, the optimal density is no more than 6 plants per 1 m².🧐
